High Shoals woman dies in wreck

A 29-year-old High Shoals woman died in a single-vehicle wreck Monday morning near Bessemer City, N.C. Highway Patrol said.

Kayla Rae Hicks, of Armstrong Circle, was driving south on White Jenkins Road when, at 8:45 a.m., she lost control of her vehicle on a curve, ran off the right side of the road, and hit a concrete culvert, First Sgt. Joel Williams said.

The gray Chevy Tahoe Hicks was driving overturned, and Hicks, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle, Williams said.

Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to her obituary, Hicks was born in McDowell County, West Virginia. She left behind two daughters.
