High temperatures expected in Middle TN following severe weekend weather

After intense weekend showers, it's going to be heating up in Middle Tennessee. The National Weather Service reported temperatures will reach the 100s halfway through the week.

However, thunderstorms are still expected. As the storms begin moving through the week winds will reach 5-10 mph.

Avoiding heat-related illness

As temperatures rise, heat related illnesses like fatigue, heat exhaustion and heatstroke become more common.

According to the NWS, physical activity or prolonged exposure to temperatures in the eighties and nineties can cause fatigue. Sunstroke, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible when temperatures reach the low 100s.

  1. In order to avoid heat related illnesses strenuous activity should be reduced or rescheduled to the cooler periods.

  2. Wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing reflects sunlight, allowing the body to maintain normal temperatures.

  3. Foods like proteins increase metabolic heat production as well as water loss.

  4. Stay hydrated! (Alcoholic beverages are not recommended.)

  5. Try to avoid sun exposure and spend time in cool, shaded, air conditioned spaces.
