High on Wichitans’ QuikTrip wish list, this one finally looks to be happening

For everyone who has ever traveled to Kansas City and wished for a QuikTrip in Emporia, it’s finally slated to happen on land just off the Turnpike entering Emporia near Exit 127A. That’s north of I-35 along Graphic Arts Road.

“We are currently in the early development stages at that location,” said spokeswoman Aisha Jefferson-Smith. “It is one of our remote travel centers.”

Actually, it’s been in development for a few years already, but the reality is getting closer for the 8,200-square-foot store.

“That’s way more spacious than our regular stores,” Jefferson-Smith said.

The convenience chain’s Gen 3 models are 5,700 square feet. It has other stores that are 3,200 to 3,800 square feet.

There will be an expanded kitchen, though it won’t offer more than QuikTrip’s traditional food offerings.

Though the store has already come a long way in development, it still has a ways to go and likely won’t open until 2025.

As of now, Jefferson-Smith said this is QuikTrip’s only planned store in Emporia.

“It just fits into that remote-store concept that we’ve been working on for the last few years,” she said. “We’re super excited to come to Emporia.”
