High wind warning in effect for southeastern Massachusetts; gusts up to 65 mph

A high wind warning is in effect in southern Bristol and Plymouth counties this morning, including the cities of Fall River, New Bedford and Mattapoisett.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring southeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m.

In Rhode Island, the Mount Hope Bridge is closed to traffic, and the Pell Bridge is closed to school buses, as a nor'easter moves through Rhode Island on Monday morning.

More than 7,000 Rhode Island customers of National Grid were without power at 7:30 a.m., most in Bristol and Westerly.

Rainfall amounts should run between 1-2 inches across most areas, bringing the threat for localized flooding.

Coastal flooding will also be an issue surrounding the Monday 10 a.m. high tide. Minor to moderate flooding is expected up and down the east coast of Massachusetts with the highest likelihood for flooding being around Plymouth and Essex counties. Coastal flood warnings were raised for these areas by the National Weather Service.

Rain is expected to continue falling until about noon, and the winds to remain high through midafternoon.
