High winds in Eddy County did not produce significant damage or down electrical lines

Wind gusts greater than 60 miles per hour did not cause any significant damage to property in Eddy County Wednesday, emergency officials said.

David Hennig, forecaster with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Midland, Texas, said a convenience store in Lovington suffered some roof damage as winds more than 65 mph hit portions of Lea County.

He said a weather station at Pine Springs, Texas, close to the Guadalupe Mountains had a wind gust of 90 mph. Other places in the mountains had wind gusts from 70 to 80 mph.

Hennig said wind gusts in Eddy County ranged from 60 to 65 mph. He said a low-pressure system moving across the U.S. brought the winds to southeast New Mexico Wednesday.

Eddy County Emergency Manager Jennifer Armendariz said her office did not receive any reports of damage or downed electrical power lines.

“We did pretty good. (There was) nothing significant,” she said.
