High winds expected into Tuesday morning in and around Coachella Valley

High winds are possible the rest of Sunday and into Tuesday morning in parts of the Coachella Valley and surrounding areas.

A new high wind warning due to the Santa Ana winds will go into effect from 6 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Tuesday, potentially impacting Cathedral City, Desert Edge, Palm Springs, Sky Valley, Thousand Palms and Desert Hot Springs. The National Weather Service predicts winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.

The Santa Ana winds will be moderately strong from the east and northeast of the San Gorgonio Pass, but not as windy as it will be farther west, the weather service said.

A high wind advisory is also in effect for the Idyllwild-Pine Cove, Julian and Pine Valley regions from 8 a.m. Monday through 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are possible.

Southern California Edison warned residents to avoid power lines and to call 911 if they spot downed wires.
