High winds suspend Cow Creek Fire

GATEWAY, Colo. (KREX) — GMUG Firefighters delayed ignition efforts for the Cow Creek Fire on Thursday due to high winds.

Firefighters continued to patrol and monitor the area but didn’t initiate any new fires.

Higher winds have created more smoke in the area recently. Officials advise smoke may be visible in Grand Junction, WHitewater, Gateway Fruita, Delta, Montrose and Norwood.

Fire officials remind the public not to call 911 for the Cow Creek prescribed burn.
