Higher temperatures leading to more female sea turtles
The warmer the sand when sea turtles eggs develop, the more they'll be female. The cooler the sand, they'll be more male. Experts say higher temperatures are producing more females.
One person was taken to an area hospital and is in serious condition, police said.
The endangered loggerhead sea turtles have 1,098 nests in St. Johns County, with 814 of those in north beaches.

Beach crews have found the first sea turtle nest on the Mississippi mainland in four years. A Harrison County Sand Beach crew that was cleaning up found what appeared to be turtle tracks just east of the Pass Christian Harbor, officials said. The eggs likely belong to a protected loggerhead sea turtle or an even rarer Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, which is the most critically endangered species of sea turtle, said Moby Solangi, president of the marine studies group.
The eggs could belong to the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, one of the most endangered sea turtles in the world.
