Thursday, July 20

Cahokia Archaeological Society — 6:30-8 p.m. Collinsville Memorial Public Library, 408 W. Main St., Collinsville. Don Booth, Senior Archaeologist for SCI Engineering, Inc., to present “Investigations at the Renner Village Site, Riverside, Missouri” (near Kansas City). The Renner Site is the type site for the Kansas City Hopewell. Both will describe the long history of investigations at the site, SCI’s work there, and the site’s apparent connections and parallels to the Illinois Valley Hopewell. The program will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m., followed by a short business meeting 7:30-8:00 p.m. Enter the library from the parking lot side and proceed to the basement meeting room for the program and the CAS meeting. No reservations are required, and both the program and the CAS meeting are free and open to the public.

The Family Support Meetings are for family members, significant others, and/or friends of persons with a mental health condition. Third Thursday of every month. Highland Farmers’ Market — 4-8 p.m. Highland Square, 914 Main St., Highland. Local farmers, cottage food makers, and crafters will be present to sell a variety of produce, meats, desserts and more. Each Tuesday morning a map will be posted on the Highland Parks and Recreation Facebook page showing what vendors will be present.

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones — 7-8:30 p.m. Online via Zoom. The PAL group provides education, support and hope to family members and loved ones of someone who has an addiction of substance use disorder. Free and open to all. MCT Donates Patrol Bicycles to Madison County Sheriff’s Office

In an effort to encourage law enforcement bicycle patrols on the Madison County Transit Trails, MCT donated two RECON Interceptor battery-powered bicycles to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, July 13.

The new ruggedized bikes will allow Sheriff’s Office employees to patrol the MCT Trails as well as other unincorporated areas of Madison County.

In the last five years, MCT has donated patrol bicycles to police departments in Alton, East Alton, Edwardsville, Granite City, Maryville, Highland, Troy, South Roxana, and Venice, as well as to campus safety officers at SIUE and Lewis & Clark Community College.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland sponsors First Aid, Cooling and Health Education Station at the 2023 Madison County Fair

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland is once again partnering with the Madison County Fair to provide a first aid, cooling and health education station at this year’s event.

St. Joseph’s Hospital will have trained health professionals on site at the fairgrounds 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, through Friday, July 28, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30. Personnel will be available to treat minor injuries, overheating and other medical issues. The station will be located in the HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Pavilion located between the Exhibition Hall and the Food and Beverage Pavilion.

During the first aid station’s hours, fairgoers can also visit the pavilion to cool off from the summer’s heat. The station will be stocked with fans, water, ice packs and popsicles for children.

Health representatives from St. Joseph’s and other health care partners will be sharing education and information about hospital services at the station throughout the week.

Additionally, on Friday, July 28, and Saturday July 30, representatives from Chestnut Health Systems and Gateway Foundation will be providing NARCAN education and handouts, drug/alcohol treatment information and family resources.

While inside the Hospital Pavilion, fairgoers can receive giveaways, as well as enter a drawing to win a $200 Highland chamber gift certificate as well as special children’s day giveaways including The Lory Theatre, Mac’s Family Fun Time, Korte Recreation Center and Highland Community Pool passes.
