Highland Park March Against Racism Set For Sunset Woods Park

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A march against systemic racism and police brutality is set for Sunday morning in Highland Park. The demonstration follows more than a week of rallies across the North Shore in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, including events held in Evanston, Lake Forest, Skokie and Winnetka.

The march is set to begin at 10 a.m. in Sunset Woods Park, 1801 Sunset Road. Demonstrators plan to march east on Central Avenue to St. Johns Avenue and north to Elm Street before returning to the park.

Organizers reminded attendees to wear masks and maintain physical distancing and encouraged marches to bring signs. Several downtown property owners ordered their buildings boarded up ahead of the march.

City staff warned that access to downtown Highland Park before noon may be difficult. In a statement, staff reminded residents testing for the coronavirus is now available to all residents regardless of symptoms.
