Highlands decked out, ready to celebrate

Dec. 7—ASHLAND — Holiday events are planned at the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center.

-Museum decorations created by the Boyd County Homemakers include a patriotic tree, a Mickey Mouse tree and an old-fashioned tree in the One Room Schoolhouse. Blazer's Cat's Catering Culinary 2 class has offered 15 gingerbread houses; museum visitors may vote for their favorites. The winner will receive tickets to an upcoming Chautauqua presentation at the Highlands Museum.

-An exhibit on loan from the Rosemary Clooney House in Augusta showcases props and costumes from the movie "White Christmas" in a portion of the Country Music Heritage Hall.

-In addition, the museum will partner with the Boyd County Public Library to present a showing of the 1954 film at 7 p.m. Monday. Admission is $5 to the movie, exhibit and concessions.

-A one-woman show entitled "Rosemary Clooney: Girl Singer" is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 14 at the museum. Presented by Rachel Lee Rogers, the show includes more than 200 of Clooney's most popular songs. Tickets are $15 for museum members and $25 for non-members.

-On the main floor is the exhibit "Creches from Around the World," a collection of nativity scenes displayed in memory of Mona and Gene Morgan, grandparents of Rachael Turner. They are on loan from Kathleen Filkins, Turner's mother.

-Museum guests of all ages we welcome to write a letter to Santa. His desk can be seen at the museum and letters can be mailed. As they are mailed, they appear in pigeonholes on Santa's desk.
