LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Residents at a senior living community center in the Highlands are about to be in for some good food and "restaurant-style service."

The Altenheim, which is at 936 Barret Ave. and offers a variety of living and care arrangements, announced Monday in a release that it has contracted food service provider Culinary Services Group to "provide an enhanced dining program for their residents."

This will be Maryland-based Culinary Services Group's first location in Kentucky. The organization is in 14 states nationwide, including Ohio.

Altenheim administrator Dana Gravitt said the center, which has 46 residents, also has decided to contract with Culinary Services Group to help attract new residents to the facility. She added that the senior living market has become more competitive amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We recognized the need to make a larger investment in our dining program," Gravitt said. “We’re not a very large community, but we believe they deserve nothing but the best.”

According to the news release, Culinary Services Group will provide "restaurant-style service," with residents getting to give input so chefs can "develop custom menus tailored to their preferences." A variety of deli-style sandwiches, fresh fruit and salads also will be available to residents each day.

Founded in 2008 by Rich Valway and John Ramey, Culinary Services Group grew to obtain $20 million in revenue by 2016 and landed a place on Food Management Magazine’s top 50 contract management companies list.

Culinary Services Group has "seen a renewed interest in enhancing food service programs post-COVID among senior care communities," according to the news release.

"It’s a great way for communities to distinguish themselves," Scott Alme, vice president of business development Culinary Services Group. "We always recommend that communities can use a dining program as a marketing tool.”
