Highlights of the Week: Young scores three touchdowns to lead Oak Hills past Burroughs

Shane Young’s three touchdowns helped lead the Oak Hills football team to a 55-0 victory over Burroughs on Friday night.

The speedy wide receiver caught six passes from Diego Lopez for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

Young also ran back a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

Young has now caught eight touchdown passes through six games, as well as three on special teams.

Lopez ended with 243 yards and three touchdowns on 13 of 15 passing. The lefty quarterback is now up to 1,239 passing yards and 13 touchdowns.

Karson Cox led the ground game with nine carries for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Like Lopez, Cox is up to 13 touchdowns on the season.

Cox along with DJ Hall and Jeff Johnson each intercepted two passes to lead the defense.

Oak Hills defense has been terrific against Burroughs over the last two seasons, with two shutouts.

The Bulldogs have won four straight meetings with the Burros by a combined score of 241-20, including last season’s 61-0 victory.

Oak Hills (6-0, 1-0 MRL) is back in action Thursday night at home against Hesperia.

At Adelanto, Melissa Otero swept in singles action to help lead the Saints past the Aztecs.

Lindsey Bollmann and Suki Kaur swept in singles action to help lead the Knights past the Jackrabbits.

AAE also got sweeps in doubles action from the teams of Hannah Martinez and Cecelia Irwin, and Brooke Ebright and Kylie Weber.

ACE 3, Silver Valley 0

Kayleigh Dupree led the Eagles with nine kills, six aces and two digs in a sweep  (25-15, 26-24, 26-24) over the Trojans.

ACE rallied from 23-20 deficits in both the second and third sets to pull off the victory.

Juju Santillanes led the Eagles with seven assists to go along with two aces, two kills and two digs, and Danaka Pelayes dished five aces with three aces.

Hesperia 3, Sultana 0 

At Hesperia, the Scorpions topped their cross-city rivals in three sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-15).

Alayja Hall led the offense for Hesperia with 13 kills and 11 digs; Jayda Del Real dished 36 assists with 14 digs and six aces; and Mariah Gardner 16 digs and three aces.

For the Sultans, Mishelle Dominguez led with nine kills, two aces, seven blocks and seven digs;  Mary Sanchez added five kills, an ace and 13 digs; and Breezy DeNase had four kills and nine digs.

Sept. 29

PREP GIRLS TENNIS

Serrano 17, Sultana 1

At Phelan, No. 1 singles player Sara Segall and doubles team of Jasmine Cordero and Leilani Madayag both swept with three bagels to lead the Diamondbacks.

Serrano also got sweeps in singles action from Brynne Staley and Naomi Park.

At Victorville, the Knights improved to 6-2 in Desert Sky League action with a victory over the Hawks.

AAE got sweeps in doubles action from the teams of Brooke Ebright and Kylie Weber (6-2, 6-1, 6-1), and Hannah Martinez and Cecelia Irwin (6-1, 6-0, 7-5).

Silverado’s Fabiola Testa swept in singles action 6-1, 6-5, 6-0.

“We are right there in every match,” Silverado head coach Bill Mocharnuk said. “We have to close the deal.”

Silverado (3-7, 3-5 DSL) is back in action Tuesday at home against Adelanto,

Oak Hills 3, Hesperia 2

At Hesperia, the Bulldogs beat the Scorpions in five sets (24-26, 25-17, 25-15, 24-26, 15-11) and improved to 4-1 in Mojave River League action.

Keona Solaita led the way for Oak Hills with 21 kills to go along with four aces and nine digs.

Maddie Brown dished 34 assists to go along with 11 kills, two aces and five digs; Kendall Ness added nine kills and five digs; Sara Pagnoni dished 40 assists with eight aces and three digs.

The Bulldogs (11-6-3) are back in action Monday against Burroughs.

Serrano 3, Burroughs 0

At Phelan, Madi DiGiorgio paced the Diamondbacks’ offense with 11 kills and Lauren Gott finished right behind with 10 in a sweep (25-13, 25-5, 25-15) against the Burros.

Macy Kavanaugh dished 31 assists with eight kills and three aces; Lilly West added six kills; and Kelsey Gomarko ended with 15 digs.

ACE 3, Lucerne Valley 0

The Eagles improved to 10-1 in Agape League action with a sweep (25-10, 27-25, 25-18) against the Mustangs.

Kayleigh Dupree led the way for ACE with nine kills, two aces and two digs; Danaka Pelayes dished eight assists with three aces and three digs; Juju Santillanes served seven aces with six assists and a kill; Olivia Benitez added six kills and an ace; and Araceli Manzo ended with six aces and a kill.

ACE (16-4) is home Tuesday for senior night against Hesperia Christian. The teams are tied for first place in the Agape League standings.

Sept. 30

PREP FOOTBALL

Hesperia Christian 46, Lucerne Valley 0

At Hesperia, the Patriots kicked off Agape League action with a shutout at home led by Arlan Koester’s five touchdowns.

The quarterback completed four passes for 76 years with three touchdowns and took four carries for 53 yard and two scores.

Ayden Ortega caught three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns. He also took three carries for 25 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, the Patriots held the Mustangs to -1 yards of offense.

Dakota McCloud had a pick-six to go along with five tackles, Julian Villalon ended with six tackles and a sack and Caleb Lewis also had six tackles with a forced and recovered fumble.

Hesperia Christian (4-1, 1-0 Agape League) is on the road next week against ACE.

Oct. 1

Prep Cross Country

At Southgate, the Oak Hills’ boys team took first place at the Swordsmen 3 Mile Sprint Invitational.

Raye Duarte led the way for Oak Hills with a time of 15:34,  followed by Rionn Watson (15:37) and Luke Catherwood (15:49).

In girls action, Grace Dorado finished in third place with a time of 19:01.

Oak Hills is back in action Oct. 15 at the IE Challenge.
