Highline Lake State Park designated as Gold Standard Site

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Highline Lake State Park was recognized by Leave No Trace as a Gold Standard Site in December 2023.

We are extrememly proud to receive the Leave No Trace Gold Standard Designation. We owe our success to the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly alongside us, including the Friends of Highline Lake, Pomona Elementary, and Orchard Avenue Elementary. As we face the challenges of managing increased visitation and its impact on our natural resources, we rely on the Leave No Trace Principles to guide our programs and management decisions.

Howard Asal, Highline Lake State Park Ranger

Nearly 150,000 people visit the Highline State Park annually. Outdoor activities include camping, fishing, hiking and boating, among others.

The Gold Standard is the highest level of recognition obtainable by Leave No Trace.

The McInnis Canyons and Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Areas are also designated as a Gold Standard Site. The Grand County Trail Ambassador Program in Moab became the first program to receive the recognition in November 2023.
