Starting Aug. 15, a road project will close Highway 18 between Dousman and Wales.

The 4-mile stretch is between Highway 67 in Dousman and Moraine View Drive, just west of Highway 83, in Wales. The route will be resurfaced and a culvert will be repaired at the Scuppernong Creek near Dousman.

The recommended detour is to use Highway 67, Interstate 94 and Highway 83 to sidestep the construction, said Michael Pyritz, communications manager for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, which is handling the project.

“We do have access available within the work zone,” Pyritz said. “We will be working with the various residents and others that are within the work zone to make sure that they do have access into the area.”

The closure in Wales is near Kettle Moraine High School and Wales Elementary School. Residents should be able to reach the schools via Highway 83.

The project is expected to wrap up later this fall, although a specific date has not been set. Learn more about the project at projects.511wi.gov/us18sunset/full-project-overview/
