A second crash on Highway 99 keeps traffic snarled south of Fresno, CHP says

Update: A second big rig crash in Selma has added to the traffic problems on Highway 99 on Tuesday in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.

A Hyundai and a semi-truck hauling wood shavings were involved in a crash in the southbound 99 lanes near Second Street in Selma about 11:40 a.m., CHP reported.

The crash was blocking the fast lane in the area as officers worked to clear path, CHP said.

Highway 99 was particularly vulnerable to traffic issues in that area as ongoing work splits the three lanes in some areas and sends cars into uncommon traffic configurations.

Original story: Traffic on Highway 99 in Fresno County was snarled Tuesday when a truck overturned and spilled debris across all southbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol said.

The truck may have struck the guardrail about 9:30 a.m. as it traveled south on Highway 99 near the Floral Avenue exit in Selma, CHP said. It came to rest on its side.

Caltrans cameras showed the southbound traffic backed up after the crash. Traffic was moving again about 11:45 a.m. albeit slow, according to live camera footage.

It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries in the crash. CHP said they were working to get heavy machinery there to clear the road.
