Highway Patrol investigating after body found in median on I-44 in Greene County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating after a body was found Monday morning in the median of Interstate 44 near exit 75 in west Springfield.

Sgt. Mike McClure with the highway patrol said a Missouri Department of Transportation crew discovered the body at about 11:20 a.m. and notified law enforcement.

As of 3 p.m., the patrol was not commenting publicly on when or how the person died, but McClure said he anticipated more information would be released later in the day.

A report posted later to the highway patrol's website identified the deceased as Craig Griffitts, 53 of Oroville, California. The report says Griffitts was walking when he was hit by a Chevrolet pickup truck on I-44 at about 4:40 a.m.
