Hiker who died after suffering medical emergency on NH trail identified

A 40-year-old woman from New York has died after she suffered a medical condition while on a New Hampshire hiking trail, officials said.

New Hampshire Fish & Game said Danielle Amber Papa, 40, of Schaghticoke, NY had been descending from Mount Cabot at about 3 p.m. Sunday when she started experiencing a serious medical condition.

Conservation officers were notified after the hiker’s fiancé called 911 requesting assistance on the Bunnell Notch Trail in Kilkenny.

Members of the Berlin Fire Department and Berlin EMS responded directly to the trailhead and started hiking in, but the woman’s condition deteriorated.

The patient was flown to an area hospital, just after 6 p.m., where she was pronounced deceased.

Her cause of death has not been released by the Medical Examiner’s Office as of this time.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
