The Hiland choral program had a phenomenal evening at Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) State Large Group Adjudicated Events on Friday, April 29, at Jackson High School, according to choral Director Alexander Looney.

“Both Varsity Singers and Bel Canto performed a set of three contrasting choral selections for three OMEA adjudicators,” Looney said. “Both choirs performed at such a high level of excellence and choral artistry. I could not be more proud of every single student and their investment, work ethic, dedication and attention to detail.”

Varsity Singers (Class A) and Bel Canto (Class C) both received superior ratings from all three adjudicators (highest possible rating at the event).

“This is a huge accomplishment, and it was a joy and blessing to have two choirs from Hiland High School performing at the state level this year,” Looney added.

Looney offered a special thank you to choral accompanist/assistant Brent Schloneger for his contributions to the choral program. An additional thank you to Pioneer Trails for providing transportation to and from Jackson High School. A third thank you went to the Hiland Music Boosters for providing funds for all students to eat and celebrate at Freddy's Steakburgers and Custard following the performances on Friday, April 29.

The state plaques the Varsity Singers and Bel Canto groups earned will be engraved, signed by all students and added to Hiland's OMEA State wall in the choir room with plaques dating back to 1964.
