Pending approval by the East Holmes Board of Education at its May meeting, Brady Schlabach will be Hiland High School's next varsity head girls basketball coach, according to social media posts.

Schlabach will succeed Jason Mishler, who spent one season as the Hawks' head coach. Mishler took over the program from Schlabach's father, Dave, who retired after the 2020-21 season.

"I am excited for the opportunity to carry on the tradition of excellence at Hiland," said Schlabach. "Growing up in this community, I've learned the values of hard work, perseverance and impacting others. I can't wait to get going."

Schlabach graduated from Hiland in 2016 after playing in the boys program for four seasons. He spent four years at Ohio State where he spent three years as student assistant for the women's basketball team.

During his fourth year, he served as an assistant coach for the Ohio Dominican women's basketball program. He also spent a year as the JV and freshman coach at Columbus DeSales and helped operate the Classic in the Country Challenge in 2022.

"Hiland is very excited to have Brady leading the program in the future," said Seger Bonifant, who is Hiland's athletic director. "He will bring great energy everyday that will continue to enhance our student athletes on and off the court."
