If you noticed that Hilary Duff is sporting an all-new look, you should know that it was a total accident.

Yesterday, the Lizzie McGuire alum, 33, posted a series of videos on her Instagram Story, where she discussed her hair disaster and revealed that she accidentally dyed her blonde locks green.

In the videos (screenshot above), Duff explains that she thought she had applied a hair mask that targets brassiness, like a purple shampoo. But in reality, the product was actually hair product that was left over from a previous at-home coloring.

It’s hard to tell from the picture, but Duff’s hair is the slightest tint of green. The dark pic doesn’t do the color justice, but we can only imagine what it looks like in natural light.

“So, I just took a bath,” Duff says. “And I put a conditioner on my hair that I thought was for taking the brassiness out. Turns out, it was left over from when my hair was green. And now I’ve turned my hair green. Again. On accident.”

When Duff says “again,” she’s referring to an incident back in April 2020, where the actress tried to dye her hair blue but ended up with a “murky green” color. Although she notes that her locks sometimes turn green from chlorine in the pool, she admits that the product she used was likely leftover from the blue hair event.

“It took about seven minutes of this hair mask sitting on my hair,” she explains. “I mean, [my hair] was not perfect. Let’s be honest. I swim every day with my kids. But now, it’s truly green.”

Hey, maybe orange green is the new black blonde.
