Hillary Clinton is coming back to Montclair on March 26 as the keynote speaker for a Women’s History Month celebration at Montclair State University.

The event, the 12th Annual Evangelina Menendez Women’s History Month Celebration, hosted by Sen. Bob Menendez in tribute to his late mother, honors accomplished New Jersey women with “trailblazer awards.”

The event, which is free and open to the public, will likely be a popular event. In 2017, when Clinton came to Watchung Booksellers in Montclair to promote her book, “What Happened,” about her presidential run against Donald Trump, hundreds of fans lined up for blocks for her signature.

“Hillary Clinton’s gracious service to our country has left an enormous legacy and has made her an iconic trailblazer who has paved the way for millions of American women for the generations to come,” Menendez said.

Clinton served as the 67th United States secretary of state under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013, as a U.S. senator representing New York from 2001 to 2009, and as the first lady of the United States from 1993 to 2000. In 2016, Clinton was the first woman in the nation’s history to win a major party’s nomination for president and went on to receive 66 million votes.

Past keynote speakers have included U.N. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, New Jersey Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver and New Jersey first lady Tammy Murphy.

In addition to the awards presentations, there will be vocal and dance performances from local women’s groups.
