Hillsborough man arrested in series of lewd acts spanning four years

HILLSBOROUGH – A 36-year-old township man has been arrested for allegedly exposing himself at a Meadowbrook Drive home last month, an act that was caught on the homeowner's surveillance camera.

The man also is believed to be responsible for two alleged acts of indecent exposure four years ago, authorities said.

Bernandino Gonzalez Lorenzana was taken into custody in Hillsborough April 6 and brought to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office where he was arrested and charged with three counts of peering and two counts of lewdness, both fourth-degree crimes, and one count of lewdness, a disorderly persons’ offense, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

He was being held at the Somerset County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.

Around 10:15 p.m. March 22, Hillsborough police responded to Meadowbrook Drive on a report of an indecent exposure involving an unknown male. The Meadowbrook Drive resident who had contacted police said he observed a man masturbating on his property, which was captured on his home surveillance camera, the prosecutor's office said.

The incident was confirmed by officers who viewed the surveillance video. Police checked the area but were not able to locate the man who was described as wearing a bandana on his head, no shirt and no underwear.

Hillsborough detectives responded to investigate and were assisted by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, and the Computer Crimes Unit.

The investigation indicated the incident was related to two other incidents of indecent exposure in Hillsborough on Sept. 14, 2018, and Nov. 1, 2018.

Around 10 p.m. Sept. 14, 2018, a naked man was observed on surveillance video near the rear door and in the front of a home on Triangle Road. The man appeared to be wearing a black wig, black shoes, and a black cloth covering his face, according to the prosecutor's office.

And around 7 p.m. Nov. 1, 2018, a Meadowbrook Drive resident reported spotting a naked man at the back door of her residence. The individual was captured on surveillance video at the home and was observed peering into the house. He was described as wearing a black wig, black shoes with white stripes, and a bandana covering his face, the prosecutor's office said.

The investigation led to Lorenzana, who does not live far from Meadowbrook Drive and Triangle Road, being identified by detectives as a suspect in the case, McDonald said.

Anyone with information relating to the investigation is asked to contact the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office at 908-231-7100, or the Hillsborough Township Police Department at 908-369-4323, or via the STOPit app. Information can also be provided through the Somerset County Crime Stoppers’ Tip Line at 1-888-577-TIPS (8477).
