Hillsdale graduate joins University Hospitals Samaritan as a primary care provider

University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center welcomed Dr. Laura Yeater, who originally is from Ashland County, as its newest primary care provider. Primary care providers are the doctors who help manage and maintain your health. Yeater is trained as a family medicine practitioner and recently started her practice with Medical Associates on Claremont Avenue in Ashland.

She has returned to her Ashland roots to care for the people in the community she grew up in. She graduated from Hillsdale High School. After high school she attended Youngstown State University for her undergraduate education. She later attended Northeast Ohio Medical University, where she focused on rural medicine. She then spent several years at University of Utah were she completed a medical residency in family medicine.

As a family medicine practitioner, Yeater can care for anyone at any age, but especially enjoys caring for young families. She cares for patients from birth to aging adults. She truly loves taking care of children, provides pre-natal and post-natal care as well as general women’s health.

“People don't think of family physicians as capable of treating children, but that couldn't be further from the truth," says Yeater. “Family physicians are qualified to treat adults and children. Ashland residents are looking for doctors to care for their children; I'd like to capitalize on that need.”

Yeater feels family medicine is the best specialty and most important practices because these practitioners care for the entire family. Family medicine doctors are the frontline of medicine and she states: “If you do your job well, your patients can avoid ending up in the hospital.”

As a family practitioner Yeater believes being a family practitioner builds strong and meaningful relationships with her patients. This allows for trust and enables accurate and high quality care. A family practitioner is ideal for growing families and is the perfect opportunity for everyone in the family to be seen by the same provider throughout their lives.

Yeater began seeing patients Nov. 1 and continues to accept new patients of all ages. To make an appointment call her office at 419-289-1221 or visit uhhospitals.org/schedule to make an appointment online.
