Hillsdale Hospital offering discogenic low back pain treatment

HILLSDALEHillsdale Hospital now offers discogenic low back pain treatment in partnership with VIA Disc NP Allograft.

The treatment is designed to supplement tissue loss with the goal of relieving debilitating low back pain through a minimally invasive procedure in an outpatient setting at Hillsdale Hospital. The hospital is among the first in the state of Michigan to offer this treatment.

Low back pain is often related to internal disruption of the disc in the lumbar spine. This pain can become chronic and is the second leading cause of missed work and the most common cause of disability worldwide. Hillsdale Hospital’s pain management clinic offers a replacement of tissue loss with the goal of restoring healthy disc function.

“VIA Disc NP is a game-changer for our patients’ disc-generated pain,” said Andy Biegner from Hillsdale Hospital’s Center for Pain Management. “VIA Disc NP is the first and only nucleus pulposus allograft intended to replace a patient’s tissue loss due to intervertebral disc degeneration without surgery.”

The VIA Disc NP treatment is an injection procedure performed under sterile conditions, using local and/or conscious sedation. Patients can return home shortly following the procedure’s completion and are advised to limit physical or strenuous activity for 72 hours post-procedure.
