Hillsdale man cited for improper lane use after crash with semi Monday

JONESVILLE — A Hillsdale man was issued a civil infraction for improper lane use after causing a crash with a tractor trailer on U.S. 12 just east of the Jonesville city limits.

The Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office, Jonesville Fire Department and Reading Emergency Unit were dispatched to the crash around 11 a.m. Monday and arrived to find both the semi and the passenger car being driver by 25-year-old Carson Reed Irwin off the roadway.

A preliminary investigation showed Irwin was traveling eastbound on U.S. 12 when he swerved into the opposing lane to avoid a second tractor trailer and into the path of 54-year-old Michael Edward Clyde Fillhart of Bradner, Ohio who was operating the tractor trailer involved in the crash.

Deputies said Irwin sought his own treatment for injuries suffered in the crash and that Fillhart was uninjured.

The Jonesville Police Department, Michigan State Police, Affordable Towing, Jimmies Towing and Auto Image Towing assisted on the scene with removing the vehicles from the side of the road.

The crash remains under investigation and remains under investigation.
