HILLSDALE — The Hillsdale Hornets capped off a strong start to their preseason practices with their annual Blue-Gold scrimmage.

The Blue-Gold scrimmage was held on Saturday, Aug. 13 and was the culmination of the team's first week of official practice before the fall season begins. The scrimmage was the Hornets' first live-scrimmage sessions with full team participation on offense and defense.

The Hornet players were split into two different offensive and defensive groups and were balanced with returning starters and players moving up from junior varsity. The two groups traded blows on both sides of the ball. The Hornets ended the day with a large tackle for a loss that caused the entire team to celebrate.

The scrimmage event was open for fans and family to attend. The team also took their season team photos before proceeding to battle in the rain. The Hornets walked off the field covered in mud and grass, looking in mid-season form before they have had an opportunity to get live-practice experience against another school.

The rainy Saturday morning was the perfect practice scenario for Hornet coaches, who took the opportunity to test the team in various live-scenarios including kickoffs and field goals.

The Hornets will look to continue their preseason work with another three days of practice this week. The Hornets' second week of practice will culminate with a scrimmage at Constantine High School. Constantine will welcome several other teams to the scrimmage, which takes place Thursday, Aug. 18. The scrimmage events will start at 10 a.m. Hillsdale will play closer to noon. This event may be open to fans and family. Check with the Hillsdale High School football team for more information on the event.
