HINGHAM − The Apple store in the Derby Street Shops has reopened with barriers out front, nearly two months after an SUV crashed through the store, killing one man and injuring nearly two dozen others.

The store reopened Wednesday for the first time since the Nov. 21 incident, when Kevin Bradley, 65, of New Jersey, was killed and 20 other people were injured. There is now a row of about two dozen steel barriers to protect the front of the store.

Bradley, who worked for GMS Construction, was moving a barrier outside the store with a co-worker when he was struck by the SUV before it crashed into the building, according to a police report.

Bradley Rein, 53, of Hingham, is facing charges after his Toyota 4Runner crashed through the store.

Rein was charged with motor vehicle homicide by reckless driving and reckless driving during his arraignment in Hingham District Court on Nov. 22 and was held on $100,000 bail. He is not allowed to drive while the case is pending, and he must seek permission of the court to leave the state. He is due back in court for his next hearing March 9.

According to the police report, Rein told officials that "his right foot became stuck on the accelerator and his vehicle accelerated." Rein also told police he had no medical issues that would impair his ability to drive and that he had been servicing his vehicle regularly. A test for alcohol in his blood found none.
