Hingham Arts Alliance fundraiser to help 'support, advocate' for local artists

HINGHAM – The newly formed Hingham Arts Alliance is looking to kickstart a new movement for the arts with its first "pARTy for the Arts" fundraiser on Saturday, March 11.

The event will be held at the Hingham Community Center at 70 South St. from 7 to 10 p.m.

Art enthusiasts can enjoy an open bar during the first hour with a cash bar to follow. There will be a lineup of performances by local artists, including musicians Sarah Troxler and Meryl Summers of the South Shore Conservatory, the Fred Astaire Ballroom Dancers, Woman Song, and musical theater with Sarah Daly and Rylan Vachon. Appetizers and desserts will be provided.

Monica Tesler serves on the board and communications committee of the Hingham Arts Alliance, which has a mission to "enhance support, advocacy, and awareness for the arts in the Hingham schools and community."

“This will be one of our major fundraising events,” Tesler said. “It’s also a great opportunity for us to showcase some local performers and bring together arts supporters in the town for a fun night.”

Over the past year, the group successfully advocated for the hiring of an arts director for the Hingham Public Schools, sponsored and supported multiple community events and began giving out arts-related grants. Starting with the Class of 2023, the Hingham Arts Alliance will award a scholarship to a Hingham High School graduate involved in the arts.

“We keep hearing that there’s a great need for an arts organization in Hingham, that we’re filling a space that’s welcomed and needed,” Tesler said. “The arts are everywhere. We have artists among us in our community that a lot of people don’t even know about, so I think being able to promote the event, highlight performers and bring together a lot of artists and art supporters really just reminds us that arts are a part of our community. They lead to a vibrant town and benefit all.”
