The hip-hop band Rehab returning to its Macon roots for a show Friday night

Rehab will be performing live at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the Capitol Theatre in Macon. This national hip-hop Middle Georgia band achieved its first taste of fame in the mid-1990s with their hit “It Don’t Matter.”

The band, which signed with Epic Records in 1999, released “Southern Discomfort” in 2000 and featured Goodie Mob’s Cee-Lo and Big Gipp as well as Cody Chesnutt. Over 140,000 units of the CD sold and the band hit the top 15 of the Modern Rock charts with “It Don’t Matter.” Since then, the band has produced more than eight studio albums. In 2023, on one streaming service alone, Rehab’s songs were streamed 35.4 million times in 180 countries.

Danny “Boone” Alexander who sings lead vocals, is the only member of the original band currently touring and is a proud representative of his hometown, Warner Robins, and of the entire Middle Georgia area. He resides in Warner Robins with his wife, Elizabeth Shiflet Alexander, less than a quarter mile from his grandparents’ former farm and his childhood home.

Alexander enjoys relaxing at home with his four cats and one dog and can often be found jamming in his backyard shop and burning the midnight oil. In nearly all his videos, his love for Middle Georgia can be seen in the form of his prominent Warner Robins tattoos displayed on his forearms.

While Danny hasn’t physically gone far from his beginnings, his outlook on life and his approach to music have both evolved tremendously. When asked to describe this evolution, Danny responded, “I used to do music to prove something and a lotta times, it was angry. Now, I just do music for the fun of it. The newer music is much more family friendly for sure. I write most nights. I love it!”

Danny’s influences are as varied as the music he creates, and many of those influences were from Middle Georgia. Some of his favorite include The Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, Little Richard, and Stillwater, just to name a few. While on a work trip to Los Angeles in 2001, Danny met Little Richard’s son and Little Richard himself. He said it was the highlight of that trip! He feels blessed to have been raised in a family that embraced music and in a community with such a rich musical history.

In addition to Alexander, Doyle Williams plays lead guitar, Nate Lee is on bass, and Ian Corabi performs on drums. The guys are very excited to be performing at what is essentially a hometown venue and look forward to entertaining family, friends, as well as, old and hopefully, some new fans.

Williams, who is a Macon native, was raised in the Bloomfield area on Thrasher Avenue and comes from an incredibly musical family. His mother, Arteen, was a classically trained soprano and his uncles, Tim and Gregg Brooks were both instrumental in the Macon music scene, and were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.

“The minute I drive into Macon, I get overwhelmed with all the memories and history I have in this city,” he said. “I feel as if I have to perform at my highest level because the Macon music scene was the catalyst for my career as a guitarist. It made me who I am as a player.”

Ian Corabi, a California transplant who currently lives in Nashville, was born to a rock ‘n’ roll family and is the son of Jon Corabi, who toured as the lead singer of Motley Crue from 1992-1998. Corabi doesn’t remember life without his drumsticks and has been playing since he was 4.

Nate Lee, the bass player, is new to Rehab but is an old pro in the music scene. He has been performing since he was a child, playing in wedding bands and doing session work for singer/songwriters in Athens for years.

Rehab’s music can be found on all streaming platforms. Fans can also enjoy the new podcast, “Rehab presents WRBN, the podcast.” Free audio of the podcast can be found on Spotify, and video subscriptions are available on Patreon.

As a small token of Rehab’s love for Middle Georgia and in memory of Linda Perkins, Alexander’s “Aunt Sissy,” all merchandise profits from the Macon show will be donated to The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia.

Tickets can be purchased at rehabtheband.com under the “tour” tab.
