Hipster Luke and Other Unseen Star Wars: The Force Awakens Moments Revealed In Concept Art

Luke Skywalker was nearly a hipster in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

Concept art for ‘Episode VII’ released by the film’s visual effects team at ILM has revealed an early design for Mark Hamill’s Jedi-in-hiding showed him with a topknot and beard combo that wouldn’t have looked out of place adorning the face of a cold-drip coffee barista in Shoreditch.

The mammoth concept art gallery (which can be seen in full here) is a treasure trove for ‘Star Wars’ fans offering a glimpse at the visual style of ‘The Force Awakens’ as it developed during the pre-production stage.

Some concepts and scenes depicted in the images never made it to screen including this scene below which appears to show a captured Jedi being tortured by Kylo Ren.

Another image shows a deleted scene from the film that saw John Boyega’s Finn hitching a ride with some unsavoury drifters after crash landing on Jakku.

This cool piece of concept art by Doug Chiang (below) shows a different concept for the First Order’s TIE Fighters. The folded wing design would suggest the bad guys had been taking aesthetic cues from the Rebellion’s X-Wing. Note the Stormtroopers are still wearing original trilogy style armour here at this early design stage.

And finally here’s Harrison Ford’s Han Solo looking like a grizzled gunslinger, ready to live up to his reputation as a rogue, shooting first asking questions later.
