Sturgis Public Schools Board of Education approves new hires for the coming year

Several new hires were approved Monday by Sturgis Public Schools Board of Education.

Assistant superintendent Nicole Gittinger introduced the eight new hires in attendance. Several are familiar, but in different capacities, she said. They include former teachers and former students who had returned to the district, as well as some educators new to Sturgis.

Audrey Green, a teacher at Sturgis High School for the past 26 years, has been hired as assistant principal at the high school.

Seth Story, a newcomer to Sturgis, has been named assistant principal at Eastwood Elementary.

Amanda Herrera is director of student services.

Some familiar people returning in new capacities include Ana Cotton, Pat Hagadorn and Sue Sleeper. Cotton, a former educational assistant at SHS, returns as ESL instructor there. Hagadorn and Sleeper each taught at Sturgis Public Schools for more than 30 years and retired in 2018. They return as ELA teachers for the EDGE program.

Anna Northam and Courtney O’Brien are alumni of Sturgis High School returning as teachers. Northam will teach math at Sturgis Middle School and O’Brien will teach first grade at Wall Elementary.
