Historic Scott County home built in 1845 hits the market for $3.4M. Take a look inside
Facing west and perched above the placid waters of North Elkhorn Creek in Scott County stands a stately country manor home with eight bedrooms and six baths.
The home on 32 lush acres dates back 177 years. It’s located at 1589 Newtown Pike in Georgetown and is currently up for sale.
The price tag? A cool $3.4 million.
Originally built in 1845 – and often attributed to renowned Lexington architect John McMurtry – the home may have incorporated an even earlier structure (possibly Federal) into its design.
But the country estate got its name in 1939, when, after a painstaking restoration by architect Robert McMeekin, it was christened “The Hollys,” according to the home’s listing on Kirkfarms.com.
In his restoration, McMeekin cast a wide net while sourcing his materials. He tied in brick from the Cherry Spring Presbyterian Church of Newtown (another McMurtry work), along with a Grecian motif for the library depicting Pan and his wood nymphs, rendered in refined mahogany.
Today, the home spans 9,923 square fee and comes with a well-appointed guest house with a first-floor suite, including three bedrooms. Out back, a converted tobacco barn offers an equestrian escape and a tack room.
