After historic season, Jonathan Taylor's game-worn jersey is headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Jonathan Taylor just completed his second season in the NFL, but a piece of him is already headed to the Hall of Fame.

Taylor's game-worn jersey is getting its own display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, to commemorate a season in which he became the youngest player ever to top 2,000 yards from scrimmage and to score 20 total touchdowns.

Taylor had the advantage of the first-ever 17-game season to rack up these totals. But the pass-happy nature of the league has also diminished the running back position, and his numbers stand out even more on that scale.

His 1,811 rushing yards were more than 500 more than the league's No. 2 back, Nick Chubb. That's the largest edge for a rushing title since 2009.

Taylor's 18 rushing touchdowns were three more than any other player. He led the league in runs of at least 20 yards (14) and 40 yards (5), had the league's longest run at 83 yards and hit the NFL's top speed for any ball-carrier this year at 22.13 miles per hour.

His biggest edge came in rushing first downs, where he had 107, with the next-best rusher coming in at 65. That's a difference of 2.5 per game.

Taylor's historic season built on the track he's made up to this point. He ran for 2,000 yards in each of his final two college seasons at Wisconsin. As a rookie in 2020, he ran for 1,169 yards, good for third in the NFL.

Jonathan Taylor became the first Indianapolis Colts player ever to win two AFC Offensive Player of the Month awards when he did so in October and November.

He hit 2,000 scrimmage yards this season at 22 years old. And he still feels as i there's another gear he can hit next season.

“There were definitely some runs that I would like to have back just from your own personal knowledge of, I know I’ve made that kind of person coming in on a certain angle miss before," Taylor said.

"It’s a matter of what kind of level of focus can I come into the next time that situations comes to ensure that you don’t miss that opportunity.”

Taylor's challenge has become raising the bar even as he's such a known commodity. He became the first Colts player to win two AFC Offensive Player of the Month awards, and he has a chance now to win AFC Offensive Player of the Year. He was also just named a first-team All-Pro.

The Colts' challenge is finding a way to make better use of his successes. With teams stacking the box to stop him the final two weeks, their passing game could not top 200 yards in either game, and the Colts lost both.

This offseason will be about finding ways to fix that. Part of Taylor is headed to the Hall of Fame, but they all watched the playoffs from home.
