HILLSDALE — The Tri-State Scenic Steam Excursion returns to the city of Hillsdale on Father's Day, Sunday, June 18.

The city is welcoming back the historic Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive No. 765, the first of several steam-powered passenger trains scheduled to visit the city this year as the Indiana Rail Experience begins its second season.

The Tri-State Scenic Steam Excursion, operated by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society in partnership with the Indiana Northeastern Railroad Co., is an all-day, roundtrip train ride departing from Edon, Ohio, to Southeast Michigan with a scheduled three-hour layover in Hillsdale.

The train is scheduled to arrive around noon on Sunday, and the city has planned a proper welcome and festivities to coincide with its arrival with approximately 400 visitors aboard.

The Hillsdale County Farmers Market will open up on Hillsdale Road between Carleton and Monroe Street.

A variety of food trucks will be nearby, and the city has coordinated with downtown restaurants and businesses to be open for dining and shopping.

The train will make its appearance again in Hillsdale on several days in October for the fall color tours on Oct. 7-8 and again Oct. 14-15. Tickets can be purchased at www.indianarailexperience.org.
