Historical County Historical society to host antique car show Saturday

The Hillsdale County Historical Society will host its first classic car show from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

The event will be hosted at the Poorhouse, located next to Bob Evans Farms on North Wolcott Street.

All makes and models of antique cars will be on display and, while each car owner will make a $10 donation to the society, the event is free to all spectators.

There will be many other activities available, including hot dogs and a taco stand.

“Food vendors will be on site, and baked goods will be sold from the General Store,” the society announced. “As well as cookies, the early department store has items on display that would have been available to shoppers in the 1800s.”

The society recently completed a new barn that will also be available for attendees to tour, along with the Poorhouse. The barn holds many historical displays from across the decades of Hillsdale County, including everything from early gas pumps to a fire engine.

“A 1931 Seagrave Fire Engine that served the City of Hillsdale until the 1970s is on display,” the statement from the society said. “In the Poorhouse will be a pictorial display of early cars, dealerships, filling stations and the roads constructed to serve the motoring public.”

The society is also encouraging visitors to bring their own Hillsdale County memorabilia to share with other attendees.

Kathy Fowler is an organizer of the event and a board member of the society. She said the society has high expectations for turnout, despite the busy time of year.

“We are hoping for at least 100 cars for this first year and a good spectator turn out,” Fowler said.

Fowler said one of her favorite parts of being involved with the society is the opportunity to host new events to raise money.

“We depend on donations to be able to do upkeep on the property,” she said.

County National Bank is sponsoring the event and said it is thankful for the opportunity.

“As a community bank, County National Bank is excited to sponsor this event for the Hillsdale County Historical Society,” Amber Yoder, marketing officer, said. “We think this will be an amazing event for the community, and hope for a great turnout and positive outcome for the Historical Society.”

The society is also optimistic about the response from the community and hopes to see many show up to support the society and event.

“We have gotten good feedback from social media and hope to have a good amount of cars and spectators come,” Fowler said.

Saturday's car show will be located at the Poorhouse.
