Historical walking tours return next month

STURGIS — The annual Oak Lawn Cemetery walking tours return Sept. 9 and 23 with a new cast of Sturgis figures from the city’s past.

Residents of the past who will be brought back to life by local reenactors include Helen Auspurger, Raymond Dresser, Newell and Grace Franks, William Grobhiser, Mark Haines, C.W. Kirsch, Stella Sturges, John W. Vogt and Emma Young.

The project is a collaboration involving Sturgis Historical Society, Sturges-Young Center for the Arts and Sturgis Civic Players.

On Sept. 9, walking tours will be from 4 to 6 p.m., embarking every 30 minutes.

On Sept. 23, walking tours start every half hour between 3 and 5 p.m. A dinner is also being offered that day, with a walking tour set for 6:30 p.m. Reservations for the dinner and show are due by Sept. 18.

Tickets for a walking tour are $15, and $42 for the dinner and show, and may be reserved by scanning the event’s QR code at the museum’s Facebook page, by visiting sturgesyoung.com or calling 269-503-7440.
