Hit the Beach with American Legion Post 35 set for Aug. 26

HAMPTON — The Wounded Warrior Project, NE Disabled Sport, and the Manchester VA will return to Hampton’s North Beach for the annual Hit The Beach event on Friday, Aug. 26. It will be the 14th consecutive year American Legion Post 35 has hosted the event.

The Wounded Warriors are veterans wounded in Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, and other conflicts around the globe. Hit The Beach introduces the injured veterans along with their spouses and children to surfing. Four local surf shops (Cinnamon Rainbows, Pioneers, Zapstix, and Summer Sessions) provide all the equipment they need including surfboards, wetsuits, and instructors. American Legion Post 35 is there to provide moral support, as well as food and drink.

The town of Hampton, Hampton Police Department and Hampton Fire Department are there if we need assistance. The large American flag provided by Hampton Fire Department is hung over the wall at 18th Street.

The location is at 18th Street (thanks in part that it is the only wheelchair accessibility to the beach) and this year due to the high tide at noon we will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
