Hit-heavy classic rock band playing its first-ever show at the Gallo Center in Modesto

Cheap Trick brings its classic rock hits to the Gallo Center for the Arts. The Riverbank Cheese and Wine Festival is among several festivals also coming up in the Modesto region, including the first California Tamale Festival. Here’s a look at entertainment planned Oct. 14-20.

Cheap Trick

Classic rock band Cheap Trick makes its first visit to the Gallo Center in Modesto. The band – Robin Zander (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar), Tom Petersson (bass guitar) and Daxx Nielsen (drums) – has had a stream of hits including “California Man,” “Dream Police,” “Surrender” and “I Want You To Want Me.” Limited tickets were available.

Cheese and wine

The Riverbank Cheese & Wine Festival returns with wine tastings each day. There also will be craft beer and cheese tastings, live entertainment, vendors, activities for children, a car show and more.

Lupita Infante

Mexican-American singer-songwriter Lupita Infante brings her ranchera music to the Gallo Center. Infante was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for her song “Dejaré.“ Her debut album, “La Serenata,” also was nominated for a Latin Grammy as well as for a Grammy Award.

“Frankenstein”

Central West Ballet brings its Halloween production of “Frankenstein” to the Gallo Center. The collaboration of local performing arts organizations includes CWB, Prospect Theater Project, Opera Modesto and Modesto Symphony Orchestra. Rene Daveluy, CWB’s artistic director, choreographed the ballet and composed the score. Limited tickets were available.

The Columbia Big Band

The Columbia Big Band Show at the State Theatre will celebrate the Great American Songbook. The 20-piece band and vocalists will feature the sounds of Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr., Tony Bennett and more. The show will benefit music and arts education in schools.

Tamale fest

The California Tamale Festival in Turlock is a first-time event. It brings live entertainment, food, drinks, family activities, mini carnival rides, cooking demonstration, arts and crafts, a home garden show, a classic car, boat and motorcycle show and more.
