Hit-and-run driver kills man walking bicycle across the street west of Lantana

A 57-year-old man walking a bicycle across the street was struck by a truck and killed, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the hit-and-run driver.

The man — whose name was not disclosed until his family could be notified — was crossing Lantana Road just east of Bangalow Drive in West Lantana about 11:14 p.m. Thursday.

The eastbound truck sideswiped the pedestrian who was thrown to the pavement by the impact. He was taken to Delray Medical Center where he died of his injuries about midnight Thursday, investigators said.

The make and model of the truck are unknown, but it will possibly have passenger side quarter panel damage and the passenger side mirror will be broken off, investigators said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Investigator Sean Ramsey at 561-681-4540 or ramseys@pbso.org.

Anonymous tips can also be given to Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County by calling 800-458-8477 or going online to crimestopperspbc.com.
