Hit-and-run driver sought in death of man on I-95 in Hollywood

A 58-year-old Fort Lauderdale man is dead and the Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed him on Interstate 95 near Hollywood.

It happened about 8:40 p.m. Friday on I-95 South, just north of Pembroke Road in the express lanes, the FHP said.

According to the crash report, the victim was walking north in the emergency lane along the concrete median wall after his 2001 silver Toyota Corolla broke down.

A southbound Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck hit him and he was thrown through the air until he landed in the right lane of the express lanes. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not disclosed.

The light-colored Silverado did not stop. It is believed to be a 1999-2006 model with custom wheels and no Chevrolet bowtie logo on the tailgate. The truck should also have damage to the front end.

The FHP released a couple of photographs, Saturday, of the pickup truck as it sped away from the scene.

Investigators are asking anyone who knows the truck or the driver, or who has any other information about the deadly crash to call the Florida Highway Patrol on your cellphone at *347 1/8*FHP].
