Hitting the road for the holidays? Florida gas prices continue falling as travel ramps up

Florida’s gas prices continued a month-long slide, dropping 12 cents in the last week.

The average price per gallon on Monday in the Sunshine State was $3.04, down 54 cents since mid-November. That’s the lowest prices since September 2021, according to the weekly briefing from AAA The Auto Club Group.

The declines couldn’t come at a better time as 5.8 million Floridians get ready to hit the road for holiday travel this week. Travelers are paying roughly 20 cents less per gallon than this time last year.

AAA officials say the gas prices are a result of international oil market uncertainty as the prospect of an economic recession looms. Oil prices have dropped by nearly $20 per barrel since early November, landing at $74.29 on Friday.

"Lower oil prices lowers the cost of producing gasoline. These low gas prices should hang around through the end of the year, unless oil prices unexpectedly rebound," said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins in his weekly briefing.
