The Sanderson sisters have returned and are ready to put a spell on you all over again in the teaser trailer for Hocus Pocus 2.

While the original Hocus Pocus film may not be officially queer, as in there are no out characters or LGBTQ+ plot lines, it might as well be. Winifred, Mary, and Sarah are pure drag camp and played by gay faves Bette Midler, Kathy Najimi, and Sarah Jessica Parker, respectively. The sequel however is rumored to be queer-inclusive with a lesbian teen love story at its center.

Hocus Pocus 2 takes place 29 years after the events of the beloved 1993 original, and Winifred, Sarah, and Mary — witches that were executed in the 17th century — are looking for revenge. “Now it is up to three high school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve,” reads the film’s official synopsis

According to reports, the film is based on the novelized version of Hocus Pocus which begins with Max’s story for the first third but then becomes a sequel about his daughter Poppy who has a major crush on her classmate Isabella. In the book, it’s Isabella’s fascination with witchcraft, which leads the girls to accidentally conjure the Sanderson sisters, who are delighted to be back in Salem and ready to wreak some more havoc.

As this is a teaser trailer it doesn’t give much away in terms of plot, but it could be that the rumors are true. One thing we can see for sure is that the Sanderson Sisters (and Thackery Binx!) are back and as fierce and witchy as ever. We love to see it. Blessed be.

Hocus Pocus 2 premieres on Disney+ on Sept 30. Watch the teaser trailer below
