Hokies get in the spirit for Giving Day at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Students are getting in the Hokie Spirit for one of its long-time traditions at the school.

On Feb. 21, Virginia Tech kicked off its Giving Day at noon. For 24 hours, Hokies get involved in several events across campus to make a difference for programs, student organizations, teams, and more.

In 2023, Hokies broke the Giving Day record with over 16,000 participants and raised over $9.6 million.

The heart of Giving Day is ambassadors, who work to inspire Alumni, students, friends, staff, and families to come together and make a difference. Last year, ambassadors raised over $900,000 making a huge impact for students and the university.

Organizers say the event started as a way for people to step out of their comfort zone and make raising money fun.

Virginia Tech says those who join this year have the chance to increase the impact through special challenges that unlock bonus funding for participating colleges and programs.
