Holby City spoilers follow.

Holby City took a sinister turn tonight (December 15) when Sacha Levy's new fiancée Jodie Rodgers secretly poisoned his daughter Beka Levy after feeling rejected.

Jodie (Sian Reese-Williams) experienced a difficult start to her day when Sacha (Bob Barrett) snapped at her to "reign it in" while she excitedly chatted to a patient about their wedding plans.

Stressed Sacha refused to listen to the concerns of his friends and colleagues, snarling at Dominic Copeland (David Ames) that he doesn't need to explain his decision to propose to Jodie and then storming away from Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) when she told him that he should be hearing "alarm bells ringing".

Things got even more tense when Beka – played by actor Bob Barrett's real-life daughter Francesca, allowing them to hug for their scenes together – arrived at the hospital to visit her dad.

She assured Sacha that he could talk to her about anything but was left shocked when Jodie turned up and clumsily dropped the bombshell that she and Sacha are engaged – something Beka had no idea about.

Jodie later attempted to build bridges with Beka, trying to give her a small Christmas tree ornament as a gift, but upset Beka stormed out of the room, causing angry Jodie to cut her hand as she squeezed the ornament tightly in rage.

Alone with Sacha, Beka confessed that she was concerned about him and revealed that many of his friends at work believe he is being taken advantage of.

Telling her dad that he isn't the only person who is grieving for his late wife Essie, and assuring him that his friends simply want to honour her memory by making sure that Sacha is okay, she told him: "It's not just Jodie. It's everything, your whole manner. You're not okay, dad. You're just not."

But not even Beka could get through to Sacha, as he told his daughter that Jodie had come to him at his lowest point and said that Beka needs to "get on board" with their relationship.

Later, Jodie discovered that a patient had fallen ill after eating a cereal bar that accidentally had medication spilled on it and she appeared to come up with an idea.

As they prepared to leave the hospital, and Sacha was asking Beka whether she wanted to stay with him or her mum, they discovered that Jodie had prepared a Hanukkah-themed meal for them.

Jodie asked Beka if she could be given another chance, offering her a wine spritzer as a peace offering. But as Sacha and Beka sat down for a drink with Jodie, Jodie secretly poured a suspicious substance into Beka's drink.

Jodie smiled as she watched Beka sip her wine, oblivious to the fact that she had been drugged. Will Beka be okay?
