Holby City shares behind-the-scenes look at finale as cast say goodbyes

Holby City has shared a behind-the-scenes look at its final ever episode, following its airing on BBC One.

In the nearly-nine-minute video uploaded to the soap's official Twitter page, we see the cast applauding and crying at not only the final scenes of the actors, but the last scenes shot at the different wards on the set. The cast reflect on their favourite memories filming the long-running show, and try their best to sum up their experience in just one word.

Music plays as we see filming wrap on the final ever scene, then some stills of the empty sets and the cast and crew saying goodbye. It's all very emotional.

Also following the broadcast of the finale, multiple cast members have tweeted further goodbyes, including Mo Effanga star Chizzy Akudolu, who made a cameo appearance in the episode.

"This is actually breaking my heart," Chizzy wrote. "Holby meant so much to so many people, including me. I'm in bits. Didn't think it would affect me like this…"

Dominic Copeland actor David Ames reacted to a compilation video, and said: "This just gave me a huge rush of emotions. All of them. Bloody hell I’m so proud of this show and everything we’ve represented and done."

Just before the episode aired, Eli Ebrahimi actor Davood Ghadami tweeted: "Tonight is the final @BBCHolbyCity ever. End of an era. I was just getting warm in the glow of the brilliant people who had been working on that show all those years.

"They are the best in the business. Goodbye Holby City and thank you."

"Bye Holby.. Bye Darwin.. Bye Nicky," wrote Nicky McKendrick actress Belinda Owusu. "Beyond grateful to have been a part of the magic."

Meanwhile, Serena Campbell actress Catherine Russell has been uploading many photos from behind the scenes to her Twitter, showing her hanging out with a number of cast members. She wrapped up her series of photos with an image of herself as Serena having a drink, writing: "Cheers @BBCHolbyCity I had a blast."

Casualty actor George Rainsford tweeted earlier today that the end of Holby had him musing about the state of television, saying: "Thinking of our colleagues at #HolbyCity. It really highlights the fragility of work in our industry that it’s finishing. To all the cast & crew, good luck for the future & congrats on 23 years of a beloved show."

Meanwhile, the BBC has also posted a lengthy Holby City 'best of' video, including a host of moments from the show's 23-year history.
