Holby City star Jaye Jacobs has revealed how she reacted when she heard her co-star Marcus Griffiths was leaving the show.

Jaye's character Donna Jackson was left heartbroken when her partner Zav Duval was killed off in a tragic twist last month.

The shocking scenes, which aired just before Holby took a hiatus, marked the end of Marcus's two-year stint in the show.

Speaking exclusively in Digital Spy's lockdown Q&A video, Jaye said she felt "really, really sad" when she heard Marcus was leaving so finally.

"It's funny when you are playing a couple as you are just always together," she said.

"I felt like I was going to be without my little compadre. But you know, I'm at home isolated now anyway.

"I was sad. It was a big shock when we found out he was going to die, and wasn't just leaving. To be honest, I thought 'poor Donna' – more crap coming her way."

Moments before Zav's tragic accident, he had managed to gather the evidence he needed to expose Cameron Dunn's dark secret over Evan.

Even more tragically, Zav parted on difficult terms with his on/off partner Donna – a sad twist which Marcus felt unsettled about.

"That was a big bugbear of mine, I won't lie", he told Digital Spy at the time. "Obviously I knew Zav was about to kick the dust, but when he said goodbye to Donna, they didn't know it was going to be the last time they saw each other.

"I tried to make that last scene more emotional but the director, quite rightly, reminded me that Zav was on a mission and wouldn't have had time for a long conversation. For me, though, it was the last time Zav was going to see the love of his life."

Holby City is now taking an extended production break and will be back on screens later in the summer.
