Holden Arboretum to host interactive maze

May 26—Holden Arboretum hopes to bring a family-friendly and bilingual experience with its adventure maze showcasing various plant species from the arboretum's biodiverse collection.

The maze is outdoors at Holden Arboretum which is working with Minotaur Mazes to create the interactive journey of decorated metal and plastic panels they hope will give a labyrinth-like atmosphere. The series of interlocking panels seeks to connect kids to plants and trees native to Northeast Ohio.

The interactive maze will run from June 11 through Sept. 5. Visit holdenfg.org to purchase tickets

The arboretum hopes to preserve these plant forms by teaching guests about their importance through this unique experience.

Mission Botanica allows guests to embark on a journey through the interactive maze, providing insight into the important roles that these plants play for the survival of all life on the planet.

Each guest is tasked with finding their way through the winding maze by completing question-and-answer challenges throughout its slithering paths. Guests can choose their own path through the maze by completing the various challenges.

Guests will learn about the traits of plants and animals that support the ecosystem they live in and learn about Mission Botanica's message of restoration of these ecosystems.

"We are thrilled to bring this engaging and interactive maze to the arboretum for families to enjoy all summer," said Jill Koski, president and CEO of Holden Forests & Gardens. "Spend an hour or an afternoon on a special mission to discover plants and trees native to Northeast Ohio located on the arboretum grounds. It's a unique way of learning more about how to identify and care for the natural world around us."

Holden Arboretum, located at 9550 Sperry Road in Kirtland, also has in bloom lilacs, wood poppy, rhododendrons, peonies and more.
