A Holden man has been charged with 68 counts of firearms and domestic violence-related charges in Rhode Island, where he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and put her in a chokehold.

On Tuesday, the office of Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that Yaran Drawbridge, 42, faced charges in Providence County Superior Court related to a May 4, 2023, incident in Johnston.

On that day, Johnston police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at Juniper Lane. According to Neronha's office, officers encountered the victim at a neighbor’s house, and she told police she had escaped a domestic assault by Drawbridge.

Drawbridge is alleged to have assaulted the victim and put her in a chokehold before she escaped through a bathroom window. The victim told police she believed he was still in the residence with multiple firearms.

Officers entered the home through a rear door and observed multiple large-capacity magazines and other gun paraphernalia in the basement. Drawbridge could not be found, and the victim told police he had another home in Holden, according to Neronha's office.

Investigators sought a warrant for Drawbridge’s arrest and alerted Holden police.

The next day he turned himself in to Johnston police headquarters. A search of the defendant’s Johnston residence turned up the firearms and ammunition.

On Dec. 4, 2023, Neronha charged Drawbridge with 62 counts of possession of a large-capacity magazine, three counts of possession of a sawed-off rifle, one count of domestic assault by strangulation, one count of simple domestic assault, and one count of domestic disorderly conduct.

Drawbridge is scheduled for a prearraignment conference Feb. 7 in Providence County Superior Court.
