Holiday brings fireworks, festivities aplenty

Jun. 28—LENOIR — This weekend mark's the start of Fourth of July celebrations, including the much-anticipated fireworks displays.

Families typically celebrate the Independence Day holiday with the traditional cookout, followed by a gathering spot with an ideal view of the annual fireworks show.

The first opportunity to witness a fireworks show follows Saturday's night racing at Tri-County Speedway in Hudson.

The city of Lenoir is hosting a fireworks display on July 4th at Lenoir Optimist Park. The show starts around 9:30 p.m.

Also on the Fourth, the Lenoir Aquatic & Fitness Center (LAFC) is hosting a 4th of July Splash Bash. The 4th of July Splash Bash will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Chalk Our Walk Contest will be from 12:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Pool Games will be from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Participants are welcome to attend the Freedom Fest, 5-9 p.m., at Waterlife Church,1007 Morganton Blvd. Lenoir. There will be food trucks corn hole, face painting, temporary tattoos, and inflatables for the kids. And it offers a great view for the city fireworks.

Food trucks for the Freedom Fest include: Cowlick: Moos and Chews, Chick-Fil-A, Speedway Winner's Circle, Pelican's Snoball, LC Coffee Shack, Sweet Cow Ice Cream LLP, and Carolina Kettle Corn.
